Albany State University has announced the addition of Sae'Quahn Rogers as assistant men's basketball coach under newly appointed head coach Rodney Mayes , effective Monday, May 4. Rogers brings a strong background in player development, recruiting, and collegiate coaching experience, along with a proven track record of contributing to winning programs. Most recently, Rogers served as the assistant men's basketball coach at Lyon College. During his tenure, he helped lead the program to an impressive overall record of 18-9 and a conference record of 11-5 in 2025. In 2024, the team also achieved an 18-9 overall record, with a strong conference mark of 14-4. Notably, Lyon advanced to the national tournament semifinals as the No. 2 overall seed, marking one of the most successful seasons in the program's history. During his first season at Lyon, Rogers played a key role in the development of student-athletes both on and off the court. The program produced three All-Americans, six Academic All-Americans, and three All-Conference selections. His coaching impact also earned national recognition, as he was selected among 45 coaches nationwide to participate in the prestigious 2025 NCAA Basketball Coaches Academy in Indianapolis. Before Lyon, Rogers spent two seasons at Point University, where he contributed to multiple areas of the program's success. During his tenure, Point produced a Defensive Player of the Year, two All-Conference performers, and 10 All-Academic student-athletes. Rogers also helped mentor a player who advanced to a professional career overseas. During the 2022-23 season, Point recorded its highest team grade point average in 12 years, reflecting Rogers' emphasis on academic achievement and total student-athlete development. His responsibilities at Point included scouting reports, recruiting coordination, player development, strength and conditioning programming, postseason training, and youth camp organization. Rogers also served as interim head coach from February through May, gaining valuable leadership experience within the program. Rogers began his collegiate career at Pfeiffer University in NCAA Division II, helping the team qualify for the national tournament in the 2016-17 season. He then transferred to Point University, where he significantly contributed to the team's turnaround, increasing their wins from six to 15 in his final season under Coach Jake Deer and Rodney Mayes . Serving as team captain in his junior and senior years, Rogers concluded his career with 1,155 points, 646 rebounds, and 205 assists, earning first-team all-conference honors and setting a school record with 21 rebounds in a game. Following college, Rogers played professionally for two seasons with Parma Basket Project in Italy, averaging 15.7 points and six rebounds per game while helping lead the team to a playoff appearance. Rogers earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in Biblical Studies from Point University in 2020 and a master's degree in Sports Management and Coaching from the Olympic Management Institute in Italy. A native of Burlington, North Carolina, Rogers built an accomplished playing career before transitioning into coaching. He graduated from The Burlington School in 2015, where he was a two-year team captain and standout performer. Rogers earned multiple all-conference and all-state honors and helped lead his team to the North Carolina 1A State Championship during his senior season. The addition of Rogers marks another significant step for Albany State as the program continues to build under Mayes' leadership. His experience as both a player and coach, combined with his commitment to player development and academic success, positions him to make an immediate impact within the Golden Rams men's basketball program.
