The most interesting game of round 19 was a home defeat of 3rd placed Flecheros (16-2) to second ranked Brumas (17-1) 78-70 in the game for the second place. It ended the five-game winning streak of Flecheros. It was a great evening for forward Herman Mullins (-2003) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. International Juan Herrera (187-1996) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side the former international swingman Francisco Garth (195-1999) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brumas have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. They maintain second place with 17-1 record having just one point less than leader Jaguares. Flecheros at the other side keep the third position with two games lost. They share it with Leones. Brumas are looking forward to face UNAN de (#16) in Managua in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Flecheros will play on the road against La Trinidad (#7) in Esteli and are hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Managua: Jaguares (#2) and UAM Univ. (#5). UAM Univ. was defeated at home 114-118 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of UAM Univ.. It was an exceptional evening for the former international Andy Williams (200-2002) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. David Watson accounted for 16 points and 10 rebounds. The former international point guard Sharlon Hodgson (183-1994) came up with 37 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for UAM Univ. in the defeat. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. The victory was the seventeenth consecutive win for Jaguares. They keep a position of league leader. UAM Univ. at the other side keeps the fifth place with four games lost. Jaguares' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Managua Americas 2.
Bottom-ranked Nicaragua U16 (0-17) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 17th consecutive match to eighteenth ranked San Isidro (4-13) 91-88 on Saturday evening. Sidney Castaneda fired a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Helmun Estrada produced 18 points and 5 assists for lost side. Nicaragua U16's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total fourteen players in this game, but that didn't help. San Isidro moved-up to seventeenth place. Nicaragua U16 lost their seventeenth game in a row. They still close the standings. San Isidro will meet at home higher ranked Tigres (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nicaragua U16 will play against Frente (#18) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 19: Tipitapa lost to Leones on the opponent's court 49-56. Tipitapa outscored Academia PLAV in a home game 92-58. Frente recorded a loss to Los Bufalos on the road 109-95. Tigres defeated Sebaco on its own court 88-81. La Trinidad beat Americas 2 in Esteli 83-65.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points and 8 rebounds by Mario Garcia of La Trinidad.




Leones - Tipitapa 56-49

Very expected game in Managua where 14th ranked Tipitapa (7-11) was defeated by fifth ranked Leones (16-2) 56-49 on Wednesday. Leones outrebounded Tipitapa 28-15. The former international Harold Barberena (179-1982) fired 26 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Elijah Allen chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Magdiel Rivera produced 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and Lenin Vasquez added 6 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Leones moved-up to third place, which they share with Flecheros. Loser Tipitapa dropped to the thirteenth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Pescadores. Tipitapa dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Academia PLAV's 42. Tipitapa forced 22 Academia PLAV turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Academia PLAV's players. Magdiel Rivera fired 14 points for the winners. Cristopher Vargas Peralta chipped in 12 points and 5 steals. Four Tipitapa players scored in double figures.
