Argentina, blown out by the United States 24 hours earlier, authored the day's signature moment, clawing back from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to stun Brazil 84-83 on a go-ahead layup in the final seconds.
Trailing 81-67 with 5:26 to play, Argentina ripped off the kind of run that turns tournaments. Santiago Pettinaroli (200-F-2008) and Benjamin Pettovello (204-PF-2008) traded four straight buckets to drag their side back, and with six seconds left Pettinaroli scooped in the winner off a Brazilian turnover for the ninth and final lead change of the night. Pettinaroli finished with 20 points, Joaquin Celiz (195-G-2008) added 16 on 7-of-10 shooting, and Pettovello chipped in 11 with four assists and a pair of clutch blocks. Brazil got a monster line from Isaiah Santos (190-SG-2008) 22 points and 15 rebounds and three early triples from Joao Neves (200-SF-2008), but managed not a single field goal over the closing two minutes.
The United States stayed perfect and merciless, hammering Mexico 107-50 in a 57-point rout that never resembled a contest. The Americans led 29-13 after the first quarter and tore off a 19-0 run across the second and third to bury it. Bruce Branch III (201-G-2008) posted a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double with a +40, Taylen Kinney (193-G-2008) provided a third-quarter spark with back-to-back threes, and Quentin Coleman (193-F/G-2008) and Ethan Taylor (218-C-2008) each grabbed 10 boards. Adrien Porras (211-C-2008) led Mexico with 16.
In Group B, Canada flexed their depth in a 100-79 takedown of the Dominican Republic, who had themselves opened with a blowout a day earlier. After Marlon Martinez (198-SF-2008) nudged the Dominicans ahead 12-11 late in the first, Canada answered with a suffocating 20-0 burst, forcing turnover after turnover and holding their opponent to a single field goal across the stretch. Lyris Robinson (198-SG-2008) led the winners with 16, Deng Ngor (207-F-2008) added 14 on 5-of-7 shooting, and Maxime Meyer (216-C-2008) stuffed the sheet again with 8 points, 11 rebounds and a game-best +29 off the bench. Martinez paced the Dominicans with 11 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
The day's other nailbiter went to Puerto Rico, who bounced back from their opening loss to edge Venezuela 78-74. Venezuela twice nudged ahead in the fourth before Myles Fuentes (185-G-2008) tied it with a floater and Felipe Quinones (198-G-2008) drilled a go-ahead three to spark a decisive 9-2 surge. Fuentes finished with 21 points and eight assists, Quinones added 20, and Samuel Nino (193-F-2008) led Venezuela with 15.
