Nicaragua  TBN Round 15 (Regular Season): Top-ranked Flecheros win another game

TBN top team - Flecheros (14-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed twenty second ranked Nicaragua U16 (0-14) in Managua 110-54. Flecheros dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Nicaragua U16's 34. Flecheros forced 26 Nicaragua U16 turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Flecheros made 7 blocks. It was a good game for international Kevin Andino (186-2002) who led his team to a victory with 15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals. The former international point guard Daniel Tenorio (177-1990) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Marcello Barberena answered with 10 points and 8 rebounds for Nicaragua U16. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Flecheros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-1 record. Nicaragua U16 at the other side still closes the standings with 14 games lost.
The game between leader Jaguares (13-0) and 20th ranked Academia PLAV (2-13) in Managua ended with biggest points difference. Jaguares outscored guests from Managua 147-54. Worth to mention a quality performance of forward Neyton Padilla (-2004) who helped to win the game recording 22 points and 6 rebounds. Jensen Campbell helped adding 22 points and 4 steals (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was Jose Munguia with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Jaguares have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Academia PLAV lost twelfth consecutive game. They keep the twentieth position with 13 games lost.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Matagalpa: Sebaco (#11) and San Isidro (#17). Sebaco (6-6) won against visiting San Isidro (3-10) 79-67. It was an exceptional evening for Kelvin Rivera who led the winners and scored 19 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals. Sidney Castaneda came up with 17 points and 24 rebounds for San Isidro in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Sebaco maintains eleventh place with 6-6 record. Loser San Isidro keeps the seventeenth position with ten games lost. They share it with UNAN de.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 15: La Trinidad beat UNAN de on the road 78-64. Tigres lost to Mineros on its own court 69-85. Leon unfortunately lost to La Libertad in Juigalpa 78-82. Brumas rolled over Tipitapa at home 118-68.




UNAN de M. - La Trinidad 64-78

No shocking result in a game when ninth ranked La Trinidad (8-6) beat 18th ranked UNAN de (3-10) in Managua 78-64 on Saturday. La Trinidad forced 26 UNAN de turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for Fabio Cardoza who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 18 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. point guard Mario Garcia (182-2000) accounted for 21 points for the winning side. Jerssan Espinoza came up with 15 points and 9 assists and American point guard Jordan Ramirez (178) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for UNAN de in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. La Trinidad moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Tigres and Mineros. Loser UNAN de M. dropped to the seventeenth position with ten games lost. They share it with San Isidro.

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Tigres (8-6) lost to ninth ranked Mineros (8-6) in Corinto 69-85 on Saturday. Mineros made 26-of-33 free shots (78.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Tigres turnovers and outrebounded them 55-32 including a 20-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for forward Norvin Mairena who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jose Mccurbia accounted for 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winning side. The former international Dwight Real (-1997) came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds and the former international Kelvin Espinoza (-2002) added 15 points respectively for Tigres in the defeat. La Libertad - Leon 82-78

Very predictable result when fourteenth ranked La Libertad (5-8) won against 19th ranked Leon (2-11) in Juigalpa 82-78 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. La Libertad dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Leon's 34. They outrebounded Leon 63-34 including a 43-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Erling Lopez (-1994) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Ervin Rocha accounted for 12 points and 18 rebounds for the winning side. Four La Libertad players scored in double figures. La Libertad's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game.
