Nicaragua  TBN Round 8 (Regular Season): Top-ranked Flecheros win another game

TBN top team - Flecheros (8-0) added another victory to their record on Saturday. This time they beat fifteenth ranked UNAN de (2-5) in Managua 54-48. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of UNAN de M.. International Kevin Andino (186-2002) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 5 rebounds. The former international swingman Francisco Garth (195-1999) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American point guard Jordan Ramirez (178) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for UNAN de. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Flecheros have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 8-0 record, which they share with Leones. UNAN de at the other side keeps the fifteenth place with five games lost.
Top-ranked Jaguares blasted bottom-ranked Nicaragua U16 (0-8) in Managua 127-52 keeping the perfect record after 8 rounds. Nicaragua U16 is still unable to win any game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Rodrigo Sierra (182-2006) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and 8 rebounds and Lesther Castillo who added 29 points during the contest. Jose Castillo Medina responded with 7 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Jaguares (7-0) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with UAM Univ. Nicaragua U16 at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Managua: Leones (#2) and Los Bufalos (#17). Los Bufalos were smashed at home by 39 points 65-104. The winners were led by Elijah Allen who had that evening a double-double by scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Even 22 points by Webeans Moody did not help to save the game for Los Bufalos. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated Leones (8-0) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Flecheros. Los Bufalos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixteenth place with six games lost. They share the position with Leon and Academia PLAV.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 8: Pescadores were beaten by Real Esteli on the road 78-60. Frente lost to Mineros on its own court 80-87. Academia PLAV was outscored by Tigres in Corinto 62-82. Americas 2 was rolled over Brumas at home 57-90. Leon was crushed by Tipitapa on the opponent's court 92-43.

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked Real Esteli (6-1) beat at home 19th ranked Pescadores (2-7) 78-60 on Saturday. Real Esteli forced 30 Pescadores turnovers. The winners were led by the former international Wilson Batista (190-2003) who scored that evening 24 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Morice Smith supported him with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Real Esteli players scored in double figures. Even 21 points and 6 rebounds by Danny Padilla did not help to save the game for Pescadores. Forward Elias Missin (-2000) added 6 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The winners were led by Mario Valdez who had that evening a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds and the former international Kelvin Espinoza (-2002) supported him with 9 points and 10 rebounds. Even 10 points and 7 rebounds by guard Darwell Lopez (-2003) did not help to save the game for Academia PLAV. Marvin Castaneda added 10 points and 6 assists for the guests.
